Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery,
Greencastle, Franklin County, PA

61 North Washington Street, Greencastle.

History:

The Lutheran congregation existed in Greencastle as early as 1775. At first, this congregation worshiped with the Reformed at the "Old Log Church" on South Carlisle Street, which also includes a cemetery. In 1792 a new building was dedicated on North Washington Street. The building was enlarged in 1836, and remodeled in 1857. In 1875, the building was removed and replaced by the present church building. The cemetery is found across the street from the church building, on the east side of North Washington Street.

The gate around the cemetery was erected by Adam Kisecker in 1879. In September 1922, sixty graves, including thirteen unknown, were relocated to this site from the Old Lutheran Cemetery across the street, next to the church. This was done in order to expand the Lutheran church building. The rear section of the building lies over the old graveyard. An attempt was made to demolish the newer cemetery and turn it into a parking lot in 1978. Public outcry initiated by Lillian Colletta helped to save the site for now
