Swiss Origins
Two areas in Switzerland each represent a strong argument for the original homeland of our Martin ancestors. Both are located in Canton Bern. The northernmost is the region near the town of Eriswil, a small hamlet about 21 miles northeast of Bern. This village is located within the jurisdiction of Sumiswald, Switzerland. Martin families are found church records and civil records back to the 1500s in this region.

The other region is an area about 15 miles south of Bern. Martins are found here in the villages of Rüeggisberg, Hintfultigen, and Vordfultigen.
